Agate Coasters

When I went to visit some family in May, I saw something that I just had to have - agate coasters!

When I returned home, I immediately went online to see where I could purchase then- my goodness, I didn't realize how expensive they were. I found them for a single coaster was $20 to sets up to $150. There had to be a better solution. I researched ways to make them and found many make them with resin and paint. I loved the result of using resin, but didn't want to spend that much either so I kept looking.

Elmer's glue sure does more than I realize! Here are the steps I took to make my own version of the agate coasters that I was yearning to have.

1. Purchased coasters from my local Hobby Lobby. Cost: 6 coasters for $2.77

2. Printed images of agates on copy paper: Cost: $0.00

3. Put a layer of Elmer's glue on the coaster: Cost: $0.00 since I already owned (if have to purchase, the last time I bought one was $1.47)

4. Cut paper to size of coaster and put on. Wait for glue to dry.

5. Put another layer of glue on top to seal everything. Wait for it to dry.

6. Done and success! The photo in this post is how the turned out.

Note: To get them as flat as I did, I had to set a heavy book on them. As the glue dried, they started to curl. For my next set, I am going to put them in mason jar covers so they are sturdier.
